Here for Blood

Written by James Roberts and Directed by Daniel Turres, “Here for Blood” is a feature length independent film created in and around London, Ontario in late 2021, released Oct 2022. When assembling the crew for this ‘fun slasher film’, Turres contacted OOAK Productions to supervise on set audio. In short, we were tasked with capturing the sound for the film, and delivering it to the post production team.

When his girlfriend, Phoebe, is swamped with college exams; Tom O’Bannon, a rowdy pro-wrestler struggling to make ends meet, agrees to fill in as a last-minute replacement for her well paying babysitting job. Tom arrives at an isolated family home where he meets the precocious 10-year-old Grace. What starts off as a quiet night of pizza and video games quickly spirals into bloody, violent chaos as Tom and Grace find themselves fighting for their lives when an otherworldly cult of masked intruders descend on the home.

Production ran for roughly 35 days, and was filmed mostly in the evenings. From a technical standpoint, our biggest challenge was ensuring that the microphones could handle the elements (cold and dampness), and the BLOOD (which was everywhere).

Ultimately, we needed to stay out of the way, but still capture pristine audio. Insist on an extra take when it counted, but help production stay on track. Deal with the sound of generators, creaky floors, wardrobe challenges, tight spaces, and fast paces scene changes. You name it, we dealt with it. (and had fun doing it).

The goal is that when you watch the film, you don’t think of any of that. To turn ‘audio’ into a story.

A Sound Supervisor is the quarterback of the Sound Department. So what better pose than to ‘protect the pigskin’!
